The West Side of San Antonio is starting to see a resurgence and it’s all thanks to the creative people who want to see our community thrive. Located on the corner of Buena Vista Drive, you will find what used to be the home of a Mexican Lutheran Church but is now a creative, co-working space aptly titled The Parish.
The Down Market, a digital zine that covers the arts and culture in San Antonio, partnered with The Parish to introduce a new event entitled “Poetry on the Patio”. This event was a limited engagement, but the patio was alive and people were ready to be inspired by the artists who reside in San Antonio.
As people find their seats and mingle, our host, Damien, kicks off the show by thanking everyone for supporting the arts and encouraging each act, including myself, as we go onstage to perform. I find poetry to be therapeutic and, for some of us, it can help heal wounds. Each artist had a different story to tell and being able to tell it under the night sky is any poet’s dream come true.
We would like to thank The Down Market, The Parish Arts Studio, La Antigua Rolling Bar, and South BBQ & Kitchen for putting on this great event in our city! We hope that you can come check it out sometime. Who knows, you may even see me on stage!
